- Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) / Aspiration
-
This method uses a small needle, similar to those used for blood draws, inserted into a lump or cyst to aspirate its contents for examination under a microscope. This method is easy, convenient, quick, and economical. It can be done in the clinic examination room when the patient sees the doctor. However, the drawback is that only a small quantity of cell samples is obtained, which sometimes may not allow a precise diagnosis.
